The class D-2 0-8-0s, Nos. 540-541, were delivered by Lima Locomotive Works in 1937, the newest steam power owned by the C&IM. (Power acquired later came "used" from other railroads.) These switchers had 52-inch drivers, a boiler pressure of 185 pounds per square inch, and cylinder dimensions of 25x28 inches. They exerted 53,000 pounds of tractive effort. Weighing in at 103 tons, they had a grate area of 47 square feet and 2697 square feet of evaporative heating surface.
