At San Jose (pronounced "San Joe's") the GM&O's line from Springfield into the Peoria area, known as the Peoria & Northern Branch, passed under the Jacksonville line in a deep cut. A wye track north of Jan Jose connected the two lines. Apparently the switch was normally lined for the wye, favoring movements between Bloomington and East Peoria. Here conductor Fenton restores the normal lineup after the motor train has cleared the switch. When the GM&O was merged into the Illinois Central Gulf in 1972, the former GM&O East Peoria line was redundant, and was soon abandoned.
