My father, Dr. R. D. Leonard, was active in forming the Central Illinois Railroad Club and knew a number of railroaders through this connection. One of them was Jim Honness, a GM&O shop official. In May 1958, Mr. Honness kindly gave us a tour of the shops and terminal facilities. Behind the main shop building was the old steam roundhouse, long since bereft of its turntable and used only for storage. For the record I snapped this photo, imagining in my mind's eye what it must have looked like in the days when the Alton's Pacifics and Mikados ruled the scene, along with smaller power.
