We are about to cross Broadway in Normal, one of the few GM&O street crossings at grade in the "twin cities." Beyond, we see the wye track at left leading to the Illinois Central's "Charter Line," still active in the 1960s. Past the wye track is the Normal depot. In the 1950s and 1960s it was no longer used for passenger service, but the Amtrak stop for Bloomington-Normal is located in this area today for the convenience of students at the two universities (Illinois State University, Normal and Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington).
