Robert P. Morris of Brooklyn, New York, is the source for this photo of NYC class L-1a Mohawk No. 2786, a product of the on-line American Locomotive Company as were the majority of NYC steam locomotives. The image was captured at Harmon, New York, on June 18, 1950. No. 2786 rolled off the erecting floor in Schenectady in 1926 along with 99 of the 100 members of its subclass. She displays the prominent Elesco feedwater heater that distinguished the L-2a group, plus the footboard pilot that restricted almost all L-2s to freight service. She was taken out of service late in 1952 after a career on the NYC's eastern main lines, and was scrapped a year later.
