The Boston & Maine's second group of P-4 4-6-2s from Lima Locomotive Works, the five members of the P-4b class delivered in 1937, were the last Pacific type locomotives erected by the Ohio builder. No 3715, shown here at Boston shortly after delivery in 1937, was dubbed Kwasind after a friend of Hiawatha in Longfellow's famous poem. The P-4 class were the B&M's premier passenger power until the arrival of diesels. For specifications of these locomotives see the commentary for Nos. 3710 and 3716. Carl Weber provided the image, photographer unspecified, from his extensive collection.
