Tom Rock of Rock on Trains provided this image of Canadian National class J-7-a Pacific No. 5279, originally Canadian Government Railways No. 507. This transparency by an anonymous photographer was taken at Stratford, Ontario on May 5, 1959. Within two years all members of this class would be retired. Even to the end, however, Canadian steam kept up a well-maintained appearance compared to some lines in the United States that did little to hide the fact that steam power was being phased out.
