Posing for a broadside shot at Stratford, Ontario is Canadian National class U-1-a 4-8-2 No. 6014. While shorter local or branch line trains were in the hands of Pacifics, these U-1 Mountains of the first two subclasses were the mainstay of heavier passenger traffic through Stratford when my brother, David Leonard, visited the location on September 5, 1958. Notice that the "elephant-ear" smoke deflectors shown on No. 6007 have been removed in later views of these locomotives.
