Displayed at Idaho Springs, Colorado near Interstate 70 is Colorado & Southern narrow gauge Consolidation No. 60. Rhode Island Locomotive Works built this engine in 1886 for the Utah & Northern Railroad, a Union Pacific subsidiary, as its No. 263. In 1890 it was moved to the UP-owned Denver, Leadville & Gunnison Railroad. When the Colorado & Southern assumed operation of the UP narrow gauge lines in Colorado, the locomotive was renumbered 60. I took this transparency at Idaho Springs in June, 1970. The device on top of the stack that resembles a stereo speaker is a spark arrester.
