Narrow gauge (36-inch) Consolidation No. 44 gets oiled in preparation for departure from Silver Plume depot on Colorado's Georgetown Loop Railroad in August 1976. The locomotive was built by Baldwin in 1921 for the Guatemala Railway. The lettering "G B & L" stands for "Georgetown, Breckenridge & Leadville," a narrow gauge line never completed. The Georgetown Loop was not fully reconstructed at the time I took this transparency, but rides were offered part way up the line with a reverse movement back to the depot. No. 44 no longer serves this tourist operation, but is found today at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden.
