Grand Trunk Western 2-8-0 No. 2683 switches at Middleton, Michigan, in the summer of 1954. Middleton was on the Greenville branch (locally known as the "Turkey Trail"), where these N-4-d Consolidations shared local duties with J-3-a Pacifics. At the time of this photo the 2-8-0s were in charge of the branch's alternate-day mixed train which my father and I once rode from Middleton to Carson City, the next stop west. The tracks of the "Turkey Trail" are still in place as far as Middleton, where a trackmobile serves a large grain elevator. Like my other GTW steam photos, this image was captured on size 116 film. No. 2683 started life in 1911 as Grand Trunk No. 785, and lasted until 1961.
