Illinois Central 4-8-2 No. 2554 rests near a water column at the roundhouse in Clinton, Illinois in October 1954. Her specifications were the same as those of the other members of the 2500-series rebuilt from 2-10-2s. Although when I took this photo steam still ruled the IC's main line from Gilman through Clinton to Springfield and the St. Louis area, it did not last much longer. No. 2554, however, evidently found work elsewhere on the IC system; according to Ray Breyer's spreadsheet she was not cut up until 1960.
