During the 1948 fair the Chicago & North Western exhibit featured a small replica of the depot of C&NW predecessor Galena & Chicago Union, at Canal and Kinzie Streets in Chicago. At left is a half-size replica of the railroad's original locomotive, the Pioneer, which had rubber tires and ran on Chicago streets during the fair's opening parade. At right is a half-size model of one of the Electro-Motive diesel units that pulled the railroad's "Overland Route" streamlined trains. In the 1949 fair the C&NW displayed a giant statue of legendary northwoods hero Paul Bunyan, and this depot was reused as part of the Gold Gulch pioneer village.
