The "Wheels-a-Rolling" pageant concluded with two modern locomotives meeting from opposite directions, as a sort of "closing curtain." On the day Roderick Arthur O'Connor visited in September 1948, the Santa Fe provided both locomotives. The four-unit F-3 diesel consist, numbered 30, had rolled off Electro-Motive's LaGrange-McCook, Illinois erecting floor only a month before; 2-10-4 5020, delivered by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1944, was part of the AT&SF's final order for steam engines.
