According to sources the Rock Island's EMD LWT12 2, built in 1955, was originally Electro-Motive's lightweight Aerotrain demonstrator that carried New York Central number 1001 while serving as the Cleveland-Chicago Great Lakes Aerotrain. It came to the CRI&P in 1958 for use in Chicago suburban service, as seen in this postcard view contributed by Gary Thompson. It was withdrawn from this route in April 1965 and stored at the Silvis Shops, being retired the following year.
