The Budd RDC-1 was powered by two 6-cylinder Detroit Diesel series 110 engines, each developing 275 horsepower. The New Haven was the second-largest operator of the RDC-1, owning 29 units; No. 28, shown here, was delivered in 1953. My father, Dr. R. D. Leonard, took this transparency at Blackstone, Massachusetts in July 1964. Reportedly the car passed into the Penn Central roster as No. 73, thence to Conrail; it was retired in 1984.
