Nickel Plate's GE 44-ton switcher 90, in the railroad's class GS-4a, shuffles a hopper car at Bloomington, Illinois in June 1957. The unit came from General Electric in 1949 and was retired from the NKP roster in 1964. Subsequently it passed through the hands of several brokers, industries and railroads including Martin Marietta; Virginia Central; Pittsburgh, Allegheny & McKees Rocks; and Kaiser Corporation, finally meeting the torch in the late 1980s.
