The New England States departs Boston in mid-afternoon behind E-8 No. 4088 and two other units. The time is September 1960. Within the next few years, this well-littered four-track line into Boston's South Station would be reduced to two tracks to make way for the Massachusetts Turnpike Extension over the former Boston & Albany right-of-way. While a student at Boston University School of Theology, I monitored the progress of the line relocation, which removed some of the already hard-to-find parking space in the area of the University.
