No information is available concerning the location and photographer for this photo of Hudson No. 5401 of class J-1e, the former Big Four No. 6626. However, the image supplied by John Sita must be dated in the decade ending in 1940 due to the absence of the Gothic lettering applied to all NYC locomotives that year. The J-1e group of ten locomotives, eventually numbered 5395-5404, were the last J-1 4-6-4s to be delivered to the New York Central System, coming from the American Locomotive Company in 1931. In videos or other media one occasionally finds one of the last five J-1e locomotives referred to as a J-3, but the J-3 class began with No. 5405.
