Color photos of the lowly 0-6-0 switcher on the New York Central System are rare. This Blackhawk slide of No. 6783, formerly Big Four No. 7409, came from Frank Fabian via Wayne Koch. The photographer was S. D. Marty, who snapped the transparency at Indianapolis on a date not specified, likely in the mid-1950s. Locomotives of class B-11p came from Lima Locomotive Works in 1918 with 57-inch drivers, 21x28-inch cylinders, and 180 p.s.i. of boiler pressure. They mustered 33,140 pounds of tractive force and weighed 173,000 pounds. No. 6783 was among the very last of its class to be retired, being consigned to the torch in 1957.
