Peoria & Eastern 4-8-2 No. 52 is seen here on April 24, 1948 at the terminal in Peoria, a facility of the Peoria & Pekin Union that served railroads entering the "Peoria Gateway" (note the GM&O RS unit in the background). This image, attributed to Arthur B. Johnson of Springfield, Missouri, was purchased through eBay. No. 52, a member of the NYC's L-1c class, was the former No. 2633 and was assigned to the P&E in 1941. Built by Lima Locomotive Works in 1918, it received a new boiler in a 1923 rebuilding and differed in appearance from other members of the class although its specifications were similar to those shown for No. 47. This locomotive was retired and sold for scrap in 1951 after the Peoria & Eastern was dieselized.
