Boston & Maine 2-6-0 No. 1425 appears at a Boston roundhouse on November 25, 1951, in an image provided by William D. Volkmer. The B&M's Moguls of class B-15b weighed about 145,000 pounds and delivered a modest 25,300 pounds of tractive effort. The cables at the top of the smokebox front, above the headlight, were for the purpose of providing train lighting from the locomotive's electric generator (the cylindrical object atop the boiler ahead of the cab) while pulling their train in reverse — a necessity for engines used in commuter service requiring a fast return to Boston's North Station.
