Originally 2-10-2 No. 1528, a Baldwin product of 1914, this locomotive went through the Illinois Central's Paducah Shops rebuilding program in 1938 and emerged as 2-8-2 No. 2108, reportedly also incorporating parts from a 2-8-2. R. J. Foster captured this image of the locomotive shortly after her rebuild on May 1, 1939 at East St. Louis. Dimensions of the IC's group of more than 500 rebuilt "Mikes" are comparable, but not uniform. As rebuilt, No. 2108 had 28x32-inch cylinders, a driver diameter of 64½ inches, and a boiler pressure of 225 p.s.i. Her engine weight was 336,000 pounds and her tractive effort was 74,078 pounds. No. 2108 lasted on the IC roster until 1953. The photo came to our Random Steam Collection by way of an eBay acquisition.
