The Lafayette, originally called William Galloway, pulled the first locomotive-powered passenger train of the Baltimore & Ohio from Mt. Clare to Elllicott's Mills, Maryland, in 1830. The B&O's Mt. Clare Shops built this replica of the 4-2-0 in 1927 for the “Fair of the Iron Horse.” It was renamed Lafayette sometime before the Chicago event. The locomotive in the background is a replica of George Stephenson's Rocket, the first successful steam locomotive in England. It is probably the replica built in England in 1931.
