Chicago Great Western EMD FP7A 116-A came from LaGrange in 1950 as one of two such CGW locomotives equipped with steam generators for service on passenger trains. In 1971, after the 1968 merger into Chicago & North Western, 116-A became C&NW 217 and continued in service until around 1985. It was in storage until 1993, when the C&NW donated it to the Hub City Heritage Corporation Railway Museum in Oelwein, Iowa. After cosmetic restoration the unit was placed on display at the museum in 1995, where I photographed it on September 4, 2000. The unit didn't look as good in the image Victor Beadle snapped in May 2014, but has since been repainted in the CGW's solid maroon livery. Efforts to restore it to operation are under way.
