Union Pacific GE U-50 45 rests somewhere in northeastern Kansas around 1974. The U-50 combined two 2500-horsepower prime movers into one carbody, on four two-axle trucks. Only the Union Pacific and the Southern Pacific ordered this model, the UP having by far the lion's share of them. No. 45 was built in 1954; all U-50s were out of service by the end of 1977.
